Cats edge past Tigers in a thriller | PHOTOS

Blyth-Snowtown exacted revenge on Brinkworth-Spalding-Redhill to become Premiers of the North Eastern Football League.

In a rematch of the 2018 decider, Blyth-Snowtown put a tumultuous year off the field behind them to edge the reigning Premiers by a narrow, 11-point margin.

It was four seasons in a day at Burra on Saturday, sunny one minute then bucketing with rain the next.

The wet conditions meant it was a low scoring affair, but it was the Cats who came out on top at the final siren, ending B.S.R's bid for a third-straight flag.

Playing coaches Ryan Darling and Gareth Ottens, who took over from the departed Carey Payne in round 4, led their team to victory for the first time since 2013.

The pair were members of the Cats' last premiership winning side six years ago.

Nathan Zweck, Shay Clifford, Scott Atkinson and Jason Agnew lined up alongside the coaches in 2013 and also helped orchestrate Saturday's drought-breaking win.

Harry Viney booted the first major of the contest for Blyth-Snowtown, following on from a behind by B.S.R swingman Lachie Wilsdon early on.

Young forward Isaac Moller hit back for the Tigers but a goal towards the end of the quarter to Scott Atkinson and one on the run to Jimmy Hunter had the Cats up by 13 points at the first drinks break.

Hunter pounced on a loose ball early in the second term to run through clear on goal but B.S.R began to chip away at the lead.

Goals to Matt Longbottom and Sam Wilsdon had the defending Premiers in good stead to gain control as they headed into half time.

But a long bomb on the run from Mickey Atkinson had Blyth-Snowtown with their noses in front at the long break, the scores at 5.3 (33) to 3.4 (22) as the two sides headed into the change rooms.

The rain arrived midway through the second term and showed little signs of slowing day for the back half of the decider, despite a brief moment of sunshine early in the third, as the teams prepared themselves for another two quarters of wet weather football.

Mail Medalist Caleb Lloyd got the Cats off to the perfect start in the third term with a clever snap from the pocket, while Scott Atkinson booted his second for the game to put the hoops in pole position.

Josh Slade sent one through the big sticks to keep B.S.R in the hunt, but chances went begging for the Tigers as the finished the penultimate quarter with 1.3.

Neither side could find a major in the final quarter as the minutes ticked down.

There were a few heart in mouth moments for the spectators at Burra Oval as the forays into the B.S.R forward line failed to be converted.

But it would be Blyth-Snowtown who would emerge victorious with the ball parked in their forward 50 as the final siren sparked celebrations.

The scoreboard read 7.4 (46) to 4.11 (35) as the siren sounded.

Cats Stalwart Gareth Ottens put in an assured shift and led by example as Captain, judged Best on Ground by the umpires.

Nathan Zweck was colossal down back for Blyth-Snowtown and was named among the best players alongside Ottens.

Hunter, Lloyd, Mickey Atkinson and Cameron Andriske also impressed.

For the Tigers, Lachie Wilsdon was excellent in the backline alongside Ben Cousins, while Phil Raymond, Jordan Clements, Slade and Longbottom rounded out the best players.
