Sporting clubs and school representatives from Burra took advantage of an informative bus tour to the Copper Coast region, hosted by the Regional Council of Goyder last month.
The representatives along with Cr Bill Gebhardt, Chief Executive Officer David J Stevenson and council staff, visited both the Wallaroo Community Sports club and the newly opened, Copper Coast Sport and Leisure Centre.
It was an opportunity to gather ideas and information on facility developments to bring back to the Burra community and to help inform any future project decisions the committee will make.
The site visit was a fantastic opportunity to learn from the two sites and the committee was very appreciative of the time provided by the Wallaroo Community Sports Club representatives and the Copper Coast Council and Leisure centre staff to talk about the development of their facilities.
David J Stevenson Chief Executive Officer noted that site visits were beneficial for the knowledge and understanding of the committee.
"...both sites offered the visiting group a wealth of information and experience which will contribute to an invigorated discussion into the future," Mr Stevenson said.
Organiser of the tour, Samantha Freeman from STARCLUB Central Mid North, believed the visit was a great opportunity for Burra Sports Clubs to envision future growth and club development for themselves.
"The STARCLUB program is a fantastic resource for clubs to use as a guide to achieve that growth and development. Clubs working at best practice will be able to better attract the funding needed to grow their vision of new facilities in Burra," Ms Freeman said.
The Burra Sports Hub Steering Committee was formed in March 2019 to bring together Burra representatives from Council, Burra Community School, sporting groups and other recreation and community groups to plan for a community sport and recreation facility to more broadly service the current and future needs of the Burra community and Goyder region.
