Hutt River (Clare) Probus club enjoyed listening to guest speaker Colleen Billows at its June meeting.
Colleen was introduced by Jan Duggin who told us they went to school together from year three to year 11 at Waldorf at Unley in Wartime with 76 students in year eight.
They have had occasional reunions over the years with the 70th coming up.
Colleen grew up at Grange with a High School teacher for a Dad.
She had five siblings but one brother died aged 5 of Tetanus in 1930s, long before vaccinations.
Her first job was at Weapons Research for three years.
Colleen then became a math teacher for three years at an all boy's college at Beverley, before spending 30 years at Sienna College.
In retirement, Colleen began volunteering for Ronald McDonald House at Melbourne St, North Adelaide.
It's a house to accommodate families who live 100km from Adelaide with children in the Women's and Children's Hospital.
She had us enthralled with stories about the facilities and children and what a great asset run by volunteers.
