Speeding drivers nabbed

Two drivers in the space of two days were pinged for driving at excessive speeds by Yorke Mid North Police over the weekend.

On Friday night, a P-plater was clocked at a staggering 201 kilometres/hour on the Horrocks Highway near Barinia.

A Clare patrol was conducting speed detection duties at about 9.30pm when a Holden Commodore sedan was clocked travelling at 201 km/h - more than double the speed limit.

The driver, a 28-year-old man from Parafield Gardens, was issued with an expiation notice for speeding and breaching the conditions of his provisional licence. He was also given a six month instant loss of licence.

The next night a driver was clocked at 50 km/h over the speed limit at Lochiel.

Just before 8pm, a Yorke Mid North Highway Patrol officer was conducting speed detection duties on the Augusta Highway when a Holden sedan was detected travelling at 160 km/h.

The driver, a 28-year-old woman from Port Pirie, was issued with an expiation notice for speeding and given a six month instant loss of licence.
