If you haven't donated blood, now might be the time to think about it.

The Blood Service is calling on 70 first-time donors to give blood when the Mobile Blood Donor Centre visits Clare next month.

More than 70 blood and plasma appointments are still available during the three day visit between March 13 and 15.

Blood Service spokesperson Jessica Willet said the visit followed the Adelaide Cup long weekend, which meant it was an important time to donate.

“The need for blood never takes a break for cancer patients, road trauma victims, burns victims and newborn babies,” Ms Willet said.

“For those patients relying on donated blood, it’s important that we have a constant supply of donations following the long weekend."

Ms Willet said they were particularly calling on people who have never donated blood, or haven't in a while to make an appointment to give blood or plasma.

“We’re also asking those donors with booked appointments to try and keep them unless they are unwell.”

Ms Willet said South Australians relied on just three percent of the population for its blood.

“One in three Australians will need blood in their lifetime, but currently only one in 30 donates,” she said.

The Mobile Blood Donor Centre will be located at the Clare Sports Club, Main North Road, Clare, on:

Wednesday, March 13: 2pm to 7.00pm;

Thursday, March 14: 10.30pm to 7.00pm;

Friday, March 15: 7.30am to 1pm.
