School days ended on a high note for Manoora teenage Tranel Churchett-Gomez following his academic achievements.

The Balaklava High School student earned himself dux for 2018, as the highest Australian Tertiary Admission Rank receiver with 93.85 – with the University of Adelaide adjustment factors will boost his final individual score to 99.8.

Tranel, who travelled each day from Manoora to Balaklava for schooling said it was an anxious wait. 

“It was an anxious wait till the results were released online on December 18 but it was a mix of relief and excitement when I received them,” Tranel said.

“It was my goal throughout the year to make sure I completed all the required assignments to ensure I could gain the best results I could at the end of the year.”

Tranel’s chosen subjects for 2018 were physics, chemistry, mathematical methods, English literacy studies and research projects for his end of year exams with an aim to achieve new pathways in his future career.

Achievements whilst attending the Balaklava High School included completion of stage two music year 12 level in 2017, received the Performing Arts Award 2017 and 2018, Literacy Award 2018, dux of year 11 in 2017 as well as performing in many community events, rock bands, solo and duos with friends.

Tranel has been accepted at the University of Adelaide but has decided to defer till 2020 to study a three year coarse for a Bachelor of Science (Advanced) with the possibly of majoring in Physics.“I am looking forward to my future challenges and I would consider if an opportunity arises to study Space Science at the new Australian Space Agency at Adelaide,” he said.

But in the interim, Tranel will enjoy a gap year travelling overseas, with his mum, to Morocco, Spain and Greece.
