Members of the Hutt River (Clare) Probus learnt all things Toyota at their recent meeting.
Tom Redden from Clare Valley Toyota along with Ryan Kitchen were the guest speakers for the day.
Tom grew up when his father and uncle owned Clare Valley Motors and spent five years as a “lacky” after school and when he had his licence helping around cars (his hands were smaller than the mechanics).
He learnt the basis of his trade there – driving new cars from Adelaide was part of it. He had various jobs after leaving school.
Tom has had 20 years at Clare Toyota on the old Golden North site. The staff has grown from five to 23.
Ryan is head trainer SA and NT covering a big area and showed a video about Hybrid cars.
Both were thanked by guest speaker co-ordinator Barry Budarick.
Some members also enjoyed a trip to Adelaide as guests of Clare Probus.
After a hike from the bus we boarded a Popeye and had a cruise around the River Torrens, with the captain giving a commentary of buildings. Members were next take to the Botanic Gardens.
The Corpus flower was viewed by many. Back on the bus and onto the Virginia Nursery for afternoon tea and many plants were admired and bought – I think a dozen tomato plants were nursed on the way home.
