In the first game, the North Eastern side couldn't reel-in eventual Under 17 Landmark Cup title winners, Yorke Peninsula, going down in the opening game by 20 points in a game played at Wallaroo Oval, on Saturday, June 9.

“In that opening game the Yorke Peninsula guys kicked the first five goals of the match and we were chasing from there,” NEFL under 17 coach David Cluse said.

“Our boys showed some character to kick three goals before half-time but they prove to be too good in the end.

“That first game was a really tightly contested affair and in the end the Yorke Peninsula boys proved to be the best team at this carnival.”

Matt Grigg kicked two goals for the North Eastern side while 2017 BSR A grade premiership player Josh Slade, Charlie Dinning, from South Clare, and Southern Saints, the experienced Lachlan Cluse were the NEFL’s better performers.

The final score was Yorke Peninsula 6.4 (40) defeating the NEFL 3.2 (20).
