From the beginning in 1975 when Jane and Andrew Mitchell began to transform the Mitchell family property from what was once a dairy, orchard and a small vineyard into the Mitchell Wines we know today, their vision was led by a passion to create wines with an intensity of varietal fruit flavour and definitive regional character.

Now joined by their three children, Hilary, Angus and Edwina Mitchell they continue to build on this venture together as a family.

Jane has always had a focus on the management and marketing of the business and continues to build the reputation of Mitchells as one of the finest small wineries in Australia.

Jane’s commitment to the wine industry has seen her take an active role in the Clare Winemakers Association, the group which promotes the area as a whole.

In this role, she was instrumental in initiating the Clare Gourmet Weekend as the first of its kind in Australia.

The Clare Valley Winemakers Association recognised Jane as a Clare Valley Legend for this and inducted her into the Clare Valley Winemakers Hall of Fame in 2014.

“The idea came out of my head in 1984 and the first Gourmet Weekend was 1985,” Jane said.

“In the beginning we only had top restaurants coming from out of the Valley to Clare.”

“Rigonis Bistro from Adelaide will be joining us at the Gourmet Weekend again this year.”

“It’s nice to have a restaurant returning to Gourmet after all these years.”

Rigonis Bistro is escaping their usual home on Leigh Street, Adelaide to take over the newly landscaped gardens at Mitchell Wines, together they will create “Una Festa Italiana” that will satisfy your every craving.

The team from Rigonis will be bringing up their charcoal grill and preparing a delicious menu including their famous arrosticini, arancini, house-made pasta, antipasto plates and also their bomboloni – ricotta and lemon doughnuts filled with

your choice of frangelico or lemoncello curd, and tossed with vanilla-cinnamon sugar.

“Come to Mitchell Wines for a nice weekend in the garden listening to ambient music and enjoying wonderful Italian food,” Jane said.

“Something that is really attractive about this road is you can park at one of the wineries and walk between the events.”

Mitchell Wines is located at 246 Hughes Park Road, Sevenhill.
