Illegal firearms and illicit drugs lead to arrests in the mid-north

Police from Brinkworth, Crystal Brook, Gladstone, Clare, Burra and the Dog Operations Unit, conducted a search of a property in the mid-north on Sunday after receiving information from the public.

Just before 4.30pm on Sunday 11 March, police carried out the search and uncovered three modified firearms, one of which had been fitted with a silencer, a crossbow and a another firearm which police will allege was store insecurely.  None of the modified firearms were registered and are suspected of having been stolen.

Police also located a quantity of ammunition along with 35gm of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

A 65-year-old man Two Wells was reported for insecure firearm and a 67-year-old man from Gawler West was reported for possessing a prohibited weapon.  Both will be summonsed to appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court at a later date.

A 37-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman from the mid-north were arrested and have been charged with a raft of firearm offences, unlawful possession and possess cannabis.

The woman was bailed to appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court on 16 April while the man was refused bail and will appear in court today.
