When it comes to Aussie sport, South Australians proudly flock to arenas and sporting grounds to cheer on the nation’s best.
And this December, the sporting capital will welcome the mother of all extreme sports, when the 2017 Professional Bull Riding event makes its Adelaide debut on Saturday, December 9.
Fast becoming one of the world’s biggest sports, a PBR event is not a rodeo – instead, strong athletes try to out-manoeuvre up to a tonne of bovine fury hell bent on dominating the eight-second battle.
For many, eight seconds may not sound like a long time, yet to a cowboy on the back of a bull, it can feel like an eternity.
While Sydney, Brisbane and many other Australian regional towns have experienced the phenomenon that is PBR, this will be the first time Adelaide’s Entertainment Centre will experience the bull-bucking action.
This international spectacle is held in the USA, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and Australia, with over 1200 riders competing to win major prizes and bull-bucking glory.
Among the toughest athletes mentally and physically, Australia has produced some of the world’s best, including 2016 Aussie champion Cody Heffernan, seasoned 10-year veteran Budd Williamson and leading Aussie rookie, the up and coming Braydon Wellby.
Troy Wilkinson is joining as the current Australian Champion and is ranked 29th in the world.
These elite contenders will be joined by international competitors, as well as the unsung heroes of the sport, protection athletes who are literally putting their bodies on the line for the athletes.
With an atmosphere like no other – crowds cheering, music pumping and adrenaline rushing – it makes for an unforgettable experience enjoyed by all ages.
All PBR events are internationally sanctioned with all points won counting towards the PBR World Standings.
The 2017 Adelaide Invitational PBR will be held this Saturday, December 9, at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre from 7.30pm, and together with PBR, the Northern Argus is offering one family (four tickets) the opportunity to head along.
For your chance to win, simply like our Facebook page, share the PBR post, and tag a friend who might like to head along for a night of bull-bucking action!
Entries close Wednesday, December 6, at midnight. The winner will be advised on our Facebook post on Thursday, December 7, and tickets will need to be collected from the Northern Argus, 203 Main North Rd, Clare.
