At the completion of all railway track laying projects there is usually a golden spike driven in.
So, to follow tradition, the Clare Model Engineers held a Golden Spike ceremony on Wednesday as the last sleeper was fitted on the new track work connecting ‘Murray Bridge’ to the existing track.
This was a large project involving significant earthworks and much track construction.
A three-week break between public run days was held to assist the work, with it all being completed in that time.
The group not only connected the bridge but also improved the approaches into the station and smoothed out some curves in front of the station and leading up to the bridge.
The group will now complete the superstructure of the bridge to give it it’s final appearance as the Murray Bridge rail bridge.
Special thanks to Clare Quarry, Earles Transport, Sanders Hardware and Clare Metal Fabrication for their assistance.
Clare Model Engineers hosted their first twilight Saturday night rides at the weekend.
Trains ran smoothly despite a large number of the public attending.
