Clare Valley Christian Outreach celebrates 25 years of life and ministry

On Sunday, October 22, Clare Valley Christian Outreach celebrated 25 years of life and ministry in the Clare Valley.

CVCO manages the Christian Bookshop in Edwards’ Mall, the Thrift and Furniture Shop in Burton Street along with the Clare Christian Emergency Relief Centre and also supports school and youth ministry.

Outlying ministries are the Blyth Community Network and the Mental Health Volunteer Support Program and until recently, Brinkworth Safety Net.

Nearly 150 people gathered at St Michael’s Catholic Church to give thanks in worship with quite a number of people returning to Clare for the event.

Pastor Tim Klein, formerly of the Clare Lutheran parish, returned to be the guest preacher.

John White, immediate past president and Jill Schunke, president, were the worship leaders.

History snippets were given by Bev Sanders and Angie Henbest, as they spoke of the inception of CVCO following a John Smith God’s Squad Mission event in 1991.

Something unique to the Clare Valley is that all the Christian churches in Clare have successfully co-operated since that time, and representatives continue to meet regularly, with clergy, to address the needs of the community.

A music team was gathered from within the seven local churches and participants in the service likewise were drawn from within all the churches.

Following the worship service, guests joined together in St Michael’s Hall for High Tea.

Elegantly laid tables were laden with a delicious array of food.

The catering was co-ordinated by Bev Simes, Karyn Hayes and Marie Marsson and they were ably assisted by people from all churches.

Sonja Czora put together an amazing display of historical memorabilia which was of great interest.

During the High Tea, presentations were made to five people who have been working at the bookshop since its inception in 1992 - Grace Alm, Sue Clarke, Jenny Denton, Barb Sanders and Bev Sanders.

A celebration cake was cut by Bev Sanders, inaugural secretary of CVCO.

CVCO offers sincere and grateful thanks to the Clare Floral Art group who supplied the glorious floral arrangements in the church and hall; to Roger and Kylie Hein who supplied and managed the sound equipment for the day; and to St Michael’s Church and hall for the use of the wonderful premises.
