A swinging good time

2017 was our 20th dance weekend in the Clare Valley and the final.

The dance weekends started in 1988 when we teamed up with Angaston’s ball to have a Saturday night dance in the Blyth hall and Sunday dance at Brinkworth.

In year 2000, Blyth had the Ball at St. Michael’s Church Hall fpr the Saturday dance and Brinkworth the Sunday dance.

By year 2003, all venues were held at Blyth with the Blyth Primary School catering.

In 2006, we moved the weekend dance to St. Michael’s Hall in Clare but by 2007, we outgrew the little hall with 156 people attending the ball.

We moved our event to the Clare Town Hall in 2008 where we have held it since and always on the fourth Saturday of the month to coincide and not clash with other weekends held in Victoria.

Gradually our numbers have increased from 70 in year 2000 to 177 last year at the ball, with similar numbers Saturday nights and 130 for the Sunday lunch and dance.

Michael and myself have been running this weekend for 13 years and for the last eight years, have had a committee to help us.

We thank the Sevenhill parish people for donating food and giving their time to work in the kitchen for all of the weekends since 2006.

Their efforts have been tireless.

Friends too have been a real help in putting this weekend together and making it such a success.

This year we had 164 attend the ball, 162 the dance on Saturday night and 134 attend Sunday.

We have so many friends and happy memories from dancing.
