Clare Valley’s Eldredge Vineyards, which received a cellar door grant through Primary Industries and Regions SA in March, will be able to host bigger weddings, functions and business conferences thanks to doubling the size of its outdoor deck.
The boutique winery located in the scenic Spring Gully region has used a dollar-for-dollar grant of $25,000 to expand its deck, which can now seat up to 110 people.
Eldredge Vineyards cellar door and functions manager Skye Eldredge said the deck extension was a huge boost to the future of the winery’s functions business.
“As one of the only cellar doors in the Clare Valley to host weddings, this provides extra scope to cater for larger weddings and also host ceremonies and receptions all in the one location with little fuss,” Ms Eldredge said.
“It also gives us the opportunity to accommodate business conferences and other functions, and ultimately that means more people can experience the Clare Valley and all it has to offer.”
Eldredge Vineyards celebrated the opening of its new outdoor space with an event on Sunday, October 8. Called ‘Freshly Decked’, it was a successful day with about 400 people attending and more than 250 meals served.

“Thankfully, the weather was on our side and visitors enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the dam and also spreading out on our lawned area,” Ms Eldredge said.
“We were also lucky to have talented locals on hand to help us make it a fun and enjoyable day, including Valley Vintage Co., Brad Bryksy Music, Boutique Tents and Special Events and Ash Catering.”
Funding for the deck was provided through the Cellar Door Grants Program, which is part of the State Government’s more than $1.8 million South Australian Wine Industry Development Scheme.
Aimed at South Australian wineries looking to diversify their cellar door offerings, the scheme has helped wineries and regional grape and wine industry associations develop wine tourism and visitor experiences.
Eldredge Vineyards used the expertise of local businesses for the deck’s construction, including Dale Agars of Agars Constructions, GP Architects, M.R. Electrix and Blind It.
More recently, Eldredge Vineyards has snared another award for its trophy cabinet, winning a Gold at the Canberra International Riesling Challenge for its 2017 Riesling.
A citrus-driven Riesling with a smooth finish, Ms Eldredge said it was set for release next month.
“Our 2016 Riesling was the drink of choice at our Freshly Decked event, so I’m sure there’ll be lots of interest in our latest release Riesling.”
Eldredge Wines is open seven days a week at Spring Gully Road, Clare.
