Jenny Brands was a guest speaker at the last Probus club meeting in September speaking about her work with health systems.

Our guest speaker was Jenny Brands, a former Clare School student, and daughter of Faith Brands our newsletter composer. Jenny has spent the last 30 years working mainly in the north of Australia as a journalist, broadcaster, adult educator and more recently in the world of research.

Over time, these roles have given Jenny a unique bundle of skills that put her in a leading role in the Australian effort to change the way that much health research gets done. Now much of her work is in helping to make health systems work better.

She has worked with Aboriginal and white groups and both need much more educating on how important it is to have regular simple self help screening check especially for bowel cancer. Jenny stressed this point.

A showing on the screen was giving lots about Jenny’s work. She was presented with a gift from the club.

The meeting was closed and all the chairs were packed. Our next meeting will be our Christmas meeting in November.
