October’s Long Weekend will see the Annual Rubber Duck Race at Port Broughton.
Sunday, October 1, is the day of competition at the Port Broughton Sailing and Boat Club. At least 700 ducks and their owners are waiting for the race on that day at the Pt Broughton foreshore.
Thanks to the sponsorship of the PA Foundation for Cancer Research and Carton Solutions in Brisbane and Geoff from TOLL NQX Adelaide, along with Rion and Sue Tarr, these experienced racing ducks have been training for the day.
Local and regional sponsors are contributing to the event which is organised by the Port Broughton Sailing and Boat Club as a fundraiser and to bring visitors to the town from across the region.
The annual family fun day event on the foreshore of Port Broughton, for the little yellow duck race, is now in its 16th year.
Once again there will be free games for the kids and adults with displays from Copper Coast Sea Rescue, FishWatch and stalls to entertain you until the ducks are set free sometime after lunch.
Purchase your duck for $3 and receive a ticket with your ducks number on, so you can collect your duck after the race.
Ducks can be purchased before the race day from, Central Deli, Pt Broughton IGA, Rags and Riches and Beachfront Deli.
You do not have to be there, for if your duck wins one of the 10 prizes, it will be sent to you, but half the fun is finding and collecting your wet, tired duck after the race.
There are prizes for the events during the day for two-year-olds to adults with games like the duck and spoon race, duck on the head race and the duck in the bucket race.
There are also prizes for the best dressed duck and its owner and also for the little duck hunt that takes place over the week before, around the town and you can buy a key to see if you can unlock the Treasure Chest.
The ducks will be launched by Garry Slavin of Pt Broughton Lawnmowing Service, out in the bay for their race to the shore. The day is a good old fashioned inexpensive day out, with lasting memories for the family the community and visitors to enjoy and cherish, with a little duck to take home afterwards.
Sponsors for the event are thanked for their support: Seahaze Villas, Pt. Broughton Caravan Park, Port Broughton Hardware, Port Broughton Hotel, Mangrove Shack, Geoff Smith Real Estate, Baker’s Bear Café, Kmart Pt Pirie, Port Broughton Lawn Mowing Service, Broughton Echo, Carton Solutions, Beachfront Deli, Pt Broughton Bakery, PA Foundation, Lonnie’s Cafe, Pt Broughton IGA, Central Deli, Mandy Lambert-Smith, Toll NQX, PB Post Office.
