Don’t forget to deep clean

Advertising feature

With spring around the corner now is the perfect time to get your house clean and organised.

Many items don’t need cleaning on a weekly basis but they should be cleaned regularly.

Some items can be left for the yearly spring clean while others should be done more often.

Follow this quick guide to make sure you're cleaning at the right times:

The oven: If you smell something burning when you turn your oven on it’s time for a deep clean. Chip of any loose pieces from the top then spray with your product of choice.

Mattress: Twice a year. Simply vacuum your mattress, spot clean stains with upholstery clean, spray with disinfectant and you’re set.

Washing machine: At least every six months. There are cleaning products on the market or a mix of distilled white vinegar and baking soda can be used.

Carpet: Low traffic areas should be cleaned once a year, bedrooms every 18 months and high traffic areas should be cleaned three to four times a year. If your carpets look dirty they should be cleaned by a professional.

Fridge: Wipe down shelves and draws weekly. Each month you should pull out all shelves and drawers to be cleaned thoroughly.

Dishwasher: Make sure you keep your dishwasher clean by cleaning the filter, removing any food and running specialised cleaner through it at least once a month.

Windows: Twice a year or as needed. Use a sponge and soapy water to wash them and a squeegee to wipe off. Don’t clean windows in direct sunlight or you will get streaks.

Ceiling fans: Once a month when in use. Wipe the top of the blades with a damp cloth.

Blinds: Three to six months or as needed. Use a damp cloth with warm soapy water.

Microwave: Wipe it down at least once a week and give it a good clean when there are splatters.
