Three local Burra boys participated in the State Junior Hockey Championships over the June long weekend.
Lucas Williams and Jasper Weatherstone took part in the combined Yorke Peninsula/Clare under 13 team, which played at Grange while Harrison Williams was selected to play in the Mid North under 15 side which played at Seacliff.
The under 13 took out the title last year, but could not replicate the win by finishing fourth in their pool.
In the under 15 side, players from Yorke Peninsula, Port Pirie and Clare were selected from trials for the competition.
The Mid North team also finished fourth overall, after being knocked out in the semi-final against Barossa/Riverland.
Last year’s Mid North side also took out the 2016 title.
All three boys started playing hockey in 2012 in the Burra under 14 team and all of them have won various best and fairest awards within the club over the years.
Harrison and Jasper both play in the CDHA Under 15 side in the Barossa Hockey Association – with Harrison also playing under 18 in the CDHA side in the Barossa.
Harrison has now finished his SAPSASA hockey career, but Jasper will represent Mid North for the last time in a couple of weeks and Lucas is will start his primary school career as a year five student.
For the boys there is a significant amount of travel and commitment to play, with not only competition hockey to play but SAPSASA and regional games as well.
