Barrier Highway reopens to traffic

The Barrier Highway has reopened to traffic following a fatal head-on crash last night at Burra.

At about 6.50pm, Wednesday, April 19, police and emergency services responded to a head-on crash on the Barrier Highway between a Holden sedan and a Ford Explorer about 1km south of Burra.

The driver and only occupant of the Holden sedan, a Para Hills West man, 58, died at the scene, while three people from the Ford Explorer were injured.

A Peterborough man, 39, was taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital with leg injuries.

Another Peterborough man, 45, was taken to the Clare Hospital with minor injuries.

A Peterborough woman, 28, was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious internal injuries.

The Barrier Highway was closed in both directions, for several hours while Major Crash Investigators examined the scene, it reopened to traffic at about 3am this morning.

The man's death brings the State's road toll to 23 compared 28 at the same time last year.
