The appearance of Christmas decorations along Clare’s main street including a giant Christmas tree in Ennis Park mark the start of Christmas celebrations in Clare.

These celebrations culminate in the annual Christmas pageant which will be held on December 8, starting at 6.30 and travelling south to the Clare Oval for the after pageant party.

Chairperson of the Lions Clare Christmas Committee, Ron Wurst encouraged local groups or businesses to begin planning their float for the pageant. Prizes will be given for the most imaginative and amusing floats.

Beyond Bank and the Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council are major sponsors of the pageant. As well, the RAA is again donating $250 as a prize for the main street business best decorated with a Christmas theme and $250 for the best Christmas decorations on a Clare home.

So decorate your home or business, add to the Clare festive atmosphere and be in the running to win some dollars to spend at Christmas time.

Many Clare businesses have donated goods for the committee’s major fund-raising activity - the Christmas stocking raffle. The stocking alone is worth $1215, and there are 13 other prizes.

Tickets can be purchased where the prizes are displayed at Beyond Bank, at other selected business houses, from Lions club members and from in front of the Clare Newsagency on Fridays until the prize draw on December 15.

Popular entertainers at the after-pageant party will be Clare Primary School Choir and Clare High School Band with local performer Matt Allan filling in the breaks. Father Christmas will make an official visit and note requests for special Christmas presents.

Other activities include a jumping castles, merry-go-rounds, bubble sports, bungee running, sumo wrestling and plenty of drink and food stalls.

The pageant, the after-pageant party and the main street decorations are a project of the Clare Lions club who are assisted by other members of the community and other service clubs.

If you would like to help in the organisation of these Christmas activities or call Ron Wurst on 88422798.
