A strong economic driver for regional prosperity, destination tourism is acknowledged as being a drawcard for visitors to the Goyder region in the Mid North of the State.

Steeped in mining and agricultural history, the towns of Burra, Terowie, Eudunda and surrounds are magnets for visitors who enjoy exploring what the region has to offer and learning about its rich history.

Regional Council of Goyder have acknowledged this strong link between the past and the future, which has potential to grow and prosper, and it is working towards embedding tourism as a vital industry.

Councillors have recently approved a new Tourism, Arts and Heritage Policy and are now working to implement the Goyder Tourism Strategic Plan together with the appointment of a Tourism, Arts & Heritage Development Manager.

Components of this strategy have included engaging with relevant stakeholders in promoting and stimulating tourism, arts and heritage across the region and developing and managing the implementation of marketing plans for council-owned accommodation.

Council has recently taken over the management and operations of the Burra and Goyder Visitor Information Centre and is driving the delivery of a new Visitor Information Centre Strategy as well as innovation of the popular Burra Passport product.

To support the changes in the management of the Visitor Information Centre volunteers are currently being sought and a tour guide and tourism officer will be appointed to complement the new manager’s role.
