Freight train collided with abandoned ute

A 30-year-old man from Owen has been reported for a collision with a freight train which occurred last Friday night.

At around 10:25PM a freight train which was travelling from Perth to Melbourne collided with a Holden ute which had been abandoned on the tracks at the junction of Calomba Road and Broster Road, Calomba near Mallala.

The ute was towed from the scene after it suffered extensive damage in the collision and the train was able to continue with only minor damage after a short delay.

Police reported the man on Monday for driving without due care, driving disqualified and false report to police after he claimed that his ute had been stolen.

The man will be summoned to court at a later date.
