BBH Football Club talent and Burra Community School student Cher Waters has been selected as one of 25 players to represent her state in the 2017 Secondary School Sport SA Girls Australian State Football Team.
Cher will travel to Perth and Mandurah, WA, to compete in the School Sport Australia Championships from July 22 to 29.
This is a fantastic achievement, considering approximately 150 young girls trialled, and of the 25 selected, only eight are country-based players.
Cher is supported by her family, in particular her proud father Chris, who has always encouraged Cher to follow her dream of one day playing in the AWFL.
Cher started her football career as a six-year-old ‘Sub-Mini’ with the BBH Football Club.
Cher has been one of very few girls playing in a male dominated competition, representing her club with impeccable sportsmanship, enthusiasm, courage and determination.
BBH Football Club president Ian Dolphin wished Cher all the best with the upcoming championships, and commended her commitment to the sport over a number of years.
At a presentation on Saturday night, following the BBH versus South Clare match, Cher was presented with a cheque for $1000 to contribute towards the costs associated with the trip.
These funds were predominantly raised by the senior footballers, all who wished Cher the very best both for the championships, and in her future footballing endeavours.
