The Zonta Club of Clare and Districts celebrated with a lunch and guest speaker in June for the group’s 15th birthday.
The celebratory luncheon was held at Bush DeVine Café at Paulett Wines with the guest speaker, Auburn artist Nona Burden.
The event also saw the induction of the club’s new board for 2017-18 with president Debra MacKenzie, secretary Nan Berrett, treasurer Jayne Dawson and board Juliette Ninnes (immediate past president), Deb Keleher, Elizabeth Calvert, Debbie Freeman, Lynda Hale, Jo Stewart Rattray, Sue McKee and Marie-Louise Adams.
Charter members present on the day included Clare members Debra MacKenzie, Nan Berrett, Deb Keleher and Elizabeth Calvert and guest Mary Burford from the Zonta Club of Adelaide.
Special guests attending the celebrations included Zonta District 23 Vice Area 2 Director Leann Symonds, who officiated at the induction, Frome MP Geoff Brock, Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council Mayor Allan Aughey OAM and Council Acting CEO John Coombe OAM.
As a global service organisation Zonta works to improve the status of women through advocacy and project delivery.
Local projects and support have included bursaries to four regional high schools, Balaklava, Riverton, Clare and Burra, to support young women in their education; donation of‘pamper packs of toiletries and other items to Uniting Care Wesley for distribution to women in need and the maintenance of a care cupboard at the Clare Hospital stocked with changes of clothing and toiletries for women hospitalised in an emergency.
Members and volunteers annually assemble birthing kits which are distributed to developing countries via the Birthing Kit Foundation.
