A group of students from St Joseph’s Primary School took part in the annual South Australian Catholic Primary Schools Sports Association Athletics Carnival last month.
St Joseph’s girls finished overall winners in section four and the boys finished overall runners-up in section four, with the under 12 boys finishing as overall champions for their age group.
This year was only the fourth in which St Joseph’s has competed in section four of the carnival after previously competing in sections five and six.
Numerous personal best performances were achieved by the students, with some impressive age group achievements from Nicolas O’Dea and Ella Smith in the under 12 section.
Both Nicolas and Ella were named overall individual champions for their ages.
Clare girls have traditonally enjoyed success at the SACPSSA carnival.
Since 2006, the girls have been overall winners eight times including back-to-back wins in 2008 and 2009, and three consecutive wins in 2013, 14 and 15.
St. Joseph’s was one of 80 Catholic schools from across the the state participating in the event, in what was the carnival’s 39th year of operation since it was launched in 1978.
