Watervale artist and teacher Harry Sherwin will be exhibiting at the latest Burra Regional Art Gallery exhibition.

The Art Teachers’ exhibition is attracting attention and on Thursday the public will be able to chat with the artists about their work.

From July 27, to September 27, the Burra Regional Art Gallery will house local art teachers showing their own works.

The exhibition is drawing lots of attention, an indication of a special event in the making.

Teachers who make art are a committed bunch, and the curators were keen to hear from them how they do it.

The exhibition celebrates the achievement of teachers and their lifetime commitment to creative and critical learning pathways in schools as they immerse themselves in the study of art traditions across cultures and time and foster enthusiasm for contemporary and new possibilities.

The teachers juggle their responsibility to promote new learning strategies within contemporary education frameworks with their own personal desire to create and their need for personal expression draws on considerable experience and a considered awareness of the nature of art.

At the official opening at 3.30pm on August 5, a public forum will be held which will be perfect to hear more about those who are exhibiting.

It will be a panel discussion with teachers, parents, students, artists and others in the audience; ways of thinking that foster creative learning processes and outcomes, and which also connect and contribute to effective study of academic and life skills; and skills central to planning a project, carrying it through using innovative approaches, skills that last a lifetime, and lead to satisfying art-based careers.

Panellists or the 2pm forum will include AGSA education officer Kylie Neagle; Member for Stuart Dan van Holst Pellekaan and moderator Helen Szuty.

Exhibitors will include Amanda Lockwood, Angelo Gencarelli, Ash Flynn, Dan Bradley, Harry Sherwin, James Butler, Jennifer Ahrens, Kelli Lewis, Matt Walker, Matthew Ryan Sweet, Nik Demasi, Rick Hutchinson,
