Clare U14 side tests Burra

The game then see-sawed from end to end and literally as the umpire lifted his whistle to blow for the end of the half Tanunda managed to sneak a reply.

A Clare team, bolstered by two opposition players, took on the might of Burra in the under 14 competition played in Clare.

Early in the first half Burra’s offence was testing of Clare’s defence and some strong attempts at goal were only narrowly defended.

Late in the half Burra were awarded a number of consecutive short corners but despite their best efforts and offensive pressure, Clare held strong to be nil all at half time.

The second half began with strong offense from Clare, pressuring their opponent’s goal circle.

Feeling threatened, Burra surged forward off of a strong counter-attack and were unlucky not to score.

CDHA UNITED 2, TANUNDA 2

Playing at Stockwell, and after initial pressure by Tanunda it was Clare United that managed to get on the scoreboard first with a goal courtesy of Thomas Lymburn.

The game then see-sawed from end to end and literally as the umpire lifted his whistle to blow for the end of the half Tanunda managed to sneak a reply.  The second half was similar to the first with both teams playing good hockey with a combination of great defence balanced by great offence.

Midway through the half a slip by a Clare player at the edge of the circle led to an opportunity to Tanunda which they cleverly took advantage of.

As they game progressed Clare picked the ball up at the halfway line, worked it down the right and skilfully worked the ball into their opponent’s circle where they ball was met by Isaac Hamann who struck the ball delightfully and watched as it passed the goalkeeper to balance the score.

A delightful game to watch and one that could have gone either way, but a 2 all drew was how it finished.

Goals (CDHA United): Thomas Lymburn, Isaac Hamann.
