Wakefield Regional Council has offered a two-year traineeship to a young South Australian as part of its involvement in a regional funding program designed to help unemployed youth gain formal qualification.

The Regional Youth Traineeship Fund has been set up to allow regional 17 to 24 year olds to gain Certificate III level qualifications and enter the workforce through a traineeship in local government.

Victoria Young began her employment with WRC on April 3 and started two Certificate III traineeships in Business and Local Government.

WRC chief executive Jason Kuchel said the program was a great opportunity to gain new skills and qualifications.

“This initiative is fantastic as it provides employment opportunities for young people where they can learn applicable skills and gain formal qualifications, particularly with local government,” Mr Kuchel said.

The program is a partnership between Regions SA and the Local Government Association of SA.
