Former Clare GP Dr Phil Worley is set to ride in the Tour de Cure SA Country Tour between May 4 and May 6.

The ride will begin in Clare, pass through the Barossa and finish in Adelaide.

The tour will include fundraising, education programs for local schools and the presentation of grants to cancer support projects.

Dr Worley joined Tour de Cure after seeing the devastating effects cancer has had on families including his own throughout his career.

“My mother and both my wife's parents died as a result of cancer and I have many relatives and friends who have been through a cancer trial as well,” Dr Worley said.

“I believe that the Tour de Cure can make a difference.”

Tour de Cure managing director Matt Clarke encouraged locals to get behind the ride by donating and cheering from the side of the road.

Donations can be made through the Tour de Cure website.
