The push for state government funding toward the Clare Oval Redevelopment Centre is about to heat up.
It is proposed the committee of the redevelopment will showcase the project to Recreation and Sport Minister Leon Bignell at the state government’s Country Cabinet visit to Clare on Tuesday, April 4.
Clare Oval Redevelopment Committee chair Justin Ragenovich said financial support of $3 million from the state government was integral to the realisation of the $10.5m project.
Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council have already committed up to $2m towards the overall project.
An application to the federal government’s Building Better Regions Grant Funding Program has also been lodged for this project for funding support to the value of $5m.
Extensive representations were made to candidates in the 2016 federal election with encouraging response universally provided.
CGVC councillor Nedd Golding, chair of the working party appointed by council to support the project, said federal MP Senator Simon Birmingham, also the federal Education and Training Minister, would visit the Clare Valley soon and be briefed on the project by key stakeholders.
“This is an ambitious project that will reinforce the role and function of the Clare Oval and Valleys Lifestyle Centre as a regional focus for sport and recreation,” Mr Golding said.
“With the commitment of financial backing of $2 million by Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council the challenge is there for the state government and federal government to financially support this project.”
Mr Golding believed the delivery of this project would create excellent sport and recreation facilities but bring much needed investment and employment outcomes to the region.
Focusing on the Clare Oval and the Valleys Lifestyle Centre the project includes:
- Enclosure of the outdoor pool at the Valleys Lifestyle Centre to provide year round usage
- New lighting of the Clare Oval to night competition standards
- Re-engineering of the Clare Oval surface for improved drainage and better coverage
- Contribution of new oval changerooms, catering facilities and elevated viewing platform.
