The 2016/2017 cricket season got off to a rough start for the Watervale Redbacks, battling the Clare Show for attendance and heading into round one dipping into their B-Grade players.
But even with a passionate team forming, the Redbacks couldn’t catch a break, losing the round one coin toss with Lower North electing to bat first and showing little slip in their display.
The Redback’s landed some good bowling though, with Simon Helbig and Manni Sandhu both two for 40, and by the end of the first innings the Buffalo’s were chasing seven for 268.
The second innings saw top order fall fast for the Redbacks, but a determined Shannon Parker held up his end through the loss of five wickets.
Lower North’s Sam Michael impressed everyone on the day, holding back nothing with his brilliant bowling display, taking an impressive two for 13.
After the last wicket fell in the second innings, the tally ended at 10 for 137.
