Commonwealth Games 2014: David Chapman claims gold

David Chapman claimed gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games with daughter Hayley also performing well making it to the semi-finals.

David Chapman claimed gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games with daughter Hayley also performing well making it to the semi-finals.

Hoyleton shooter, David Chapman has claimed a Gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol's Men's Final.

David's selection in the Commonwealth Games was already special, being selected with his daughter, Hayley Chapman to compete and to win a Gold medal makes it even more special. 

David competed in the Men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event which began with Qualifying Stage 1 on Monday where he qualified in 3rd position with 282 points. 

In Stage 2 of qualifying David finished in 1st position improving his score to 286 points. 

This took him to the Finals where he would shoot for a medal against six other shooters where he shot extremely well earning 23 points to win the Gold medal, with the next competitor with 21 points. 

Not only did his score of 23 points in the final earn him a Gold medal, it was also a Finals Games Record. 

Hayley Chapman also performed well finishing in 6th position in the semi-finals of the Women's 25m Pistol event.
