Rodeo memories

24 Feb, 2010 09:09 AM
I see in this week’s Northern Argus that Clare is having a rodeo, it brings back memories of the last Clare Rodeo in the early ’40s, the war years, to raise money for the war effort.

There was a rodeo out at Stanley Flat Racecourse in 1936, the year of the state centenary. I was a boy of 11 years and got second prize in the poddy calf ride.

For the rodeo on the Clare Oval, I supplied the horses as well as riding. I was injured that day while riding a horse called “Sparks”.

I have lived all my life in Snowtown until a couple of years ago, due to ill health, I moved to Port Broughton.
