 Community must take a stand

Community must take a stand

We were very disappointed to hear on Saturday morning that a wind measurement tower was approved by the Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council Development Assessment Panel after it received a record number of objections to this development.

This is more public objection to a development that the Clare Valley Council has ever experienced and yet still – the Development Assessment Panel is unable to hear our voice.

The development plan for this council, and for most regional councils, doesn’t allow any link between developments. Even when the wind development company admitted that this wind measurement tower was a pre-cursor to a wind farm.

If you think wind farms won’t affect you because you’re in the Clare, Watervale or Sevenhill townships, think again – there’s a development application already in for a wind measurement tower on the Skilly Range – at the back of Watervale/Sevenhill earmarked along our beautiful Skilly Hills. Unless you register your objection by March 3, you will not be heard. We must stand up as a community here and protect our ridge lines, health, social cohesion and environment.

Why has Sweden just legislated against erecting wind farms within 10km of human habitation?

We encourage each and every resident of the region in valleys, hills or townships to take some time out and think about how a wind farm really would affect you.

Come on Clare people– stand up to these multinationals and protect your regions’ history, beauty and lifestyle. If only our council would assist - in 10 years time, wouldn’t it be great to know that they did protect our region now so we can all say “isn’t it great that we are the only region left with natural sky lines and vistas to enjoy”.
