Healthy lifestyle for sake of our children

A healthy lifestyle is something we all want and should strive for.

But how many parents set an unhealthy example for their children?

Eating healthily is just part of the example we need to give children at a young age to help control the obesity epidemic, but exercising plays a big part in it also.

In the early hours of each morning just after sunrise, people are often out walking or heading to the gym.

Which makes it possible for them to have that little bit of exercise for the day they may lack if leaving it until after work each night, when tired and lethargic.

Children need to also get out and exercise, yes, they do it at school but it is important for all to get involved.

Each weekend there is always a different sport being played, whether it is hockey, cricket, netball or football and even horse riding.

But for those who do not enjoy sport or don’t see an interest in it, it is important to still get out and do something physical.

Parents of children who don’t have a lot of involvement in sports should encourage them to perhaps take the dog for a walk, head down to the skate park or even the local playground.

Not only should they encourage, they should get involved to set an example their children will take and use in the future, for when they have their own children.

A new program at the Valleys Lifestyle Centre in Clare has seen a huge number of people turn out, all having one thing in mind to get in to shape, have fun and be active.

The participants range in age from 18 right up to 60, and not only are they doing it for themselves they will also set a goal for their children and perhaps even grandchildren.

We all need to have the same goals for our children and ourselves, which include being healthy, fit and happy, at the same time as setting good examples.
