Queensland Roar will be without five squad members for the A-League matches against Newcastle and Melbourne next month after a quintet of Young Socceroos call-ups.
Under-20s coach Jan Versleijen today selected Queenslanders Isaka Cernak, Luke DeVere, Tahj Minniecon, Mitch Nichols and Tom Oar in his squad of 23 players for the AFC under-19s championships in Saudi Arabia starting on October 31.
Queensland face Wellington in New Zealand this Sunday, meaning their participation at the weekend is also in some doubt.
The Young Socceroos will go into the competition - which doubles as the qualifying tournament for the under-20s World Cup next July - with confidence following their performances at the ASEAN youth championships where they defeated China, Thailand and South Korea.
"Following all our training camps and lead-up matches, I believe we have assembled the strongest possible squad for this important tournament," said Versleijen
"It is important for Australian football that we qualify for the World Cup to improve the development of this group of players."
