The North Clare Roosters has appointed George Coles to coach the A Grade for the 2010 season.
Coles will take over the reigns from Craig Jaeschke who announced his retirement at the end of this season after finishing fifth on the Premiership ladder with 8 wins and 9 losses in 2009. Jaeschke took the Roosters to the finals in his debut year at the helm in 2008 following their wooden spoon finish in 2007.
Coaching the B Grade for the last two years with a Premiership in 2008 and a preliminary-final finish this year will give Coles a huge advantage with his knowledge of the playing group within the club. He also looked after the B Grade in 1998 and 1999 finishing third and second respectively.
Coles said he hoped to improve the squad and match it with the top sides in the competition.
“Hopefully we can improve next year, we’ve got the foundation with our playing group and we need to get better, we need to improve, the top sides aren’t going to get any weaker, we need to improve our ability as a playing group so we can match it with the top sides. Our first goal is to get a really sound fitness base, Andrew Waters is in charge of the fitness, he’s going to lay out a program so when we start full-on training in early February we want everyone to come back with a fair level of fitness,” said Coles.
North has interviewed several potential recruits with Steve O’Neill signing on the dotted line to play in 2010. O’Neill is a 194cm key position player which will be more than handy at the Roosters and he comes to Clare from the Queanbeyan Tigers Football Club.
North Clare hasn’t wasted any time hitting the track with a 3-kilometre time trial held on Monday evening. Mark Sims has been given the job of coaching the ‘B’ Grade, Brett Pink will look after the under 17s while Andrew Jaeschke and Patrick Clark will guide the under 14s.
