Rodeo draws 4000

20 Jan, 2010 11:53 AM
The annual Carrieton Rodeo attracted about 4000 people to the grounds for the Sunday night event.

Held on a Sunday night to avoid a clash with Boxing Day, publicity and sponsorship officer Shane Rowe said the crowd grew by more than 800 on last years attendance.

“We would have had nearly 4000 people this year. It was a successful night, it was very good,” Shane said.

The events schedule also grew from 18 events to 2 events this year as the number of entries had also increased.

“The nominations were way up on last year, we had lots of competitors from interstate that hadn’t been to Carrieton before,” she said.

With a few power issues in the main arena, it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd, nor did it stop the photographers from snapping some shots for the photographic competition.

“We had a very good crowd this year, there wasn’t a problem. It was a really good night and everything ran smoothly,” she said.

Once the action in the main arena had finished it was time for the BC Boys to fire up their tunes and they kept the crowd singing and dancing well in to the early hours of Sunday morning.

A hot bacon and egg sandwich for the morning kept the empty stomachs happy, and the police offered voluntary breath testing for those who were keen to get going early.

“We have already had a lot of people send in photographs for the competition, it’s hard to open a portfolio when you don’t have many photos, the input from the people taking photos on the night has been great,” Shane said.

Whether you’re a photographer or not but you were taking photos of the action at Carrieton Rodeo send them along for your chance to win $200.

Photographs need to be burnt to CD and sent to Shane Rowe, Publicity and Sponsorship officer, Carrieton Rodeo Club, PO Box 16, Carrieton SA 5432.

Entries close at the end of February, for more information call Shane on 8658 9076.
