The North Eastern Football League and North Eastern Netball Association were delighted with the success of their inaugural Pink Day on Saturday, with a final tally of more than $3000 raised for breast cancer research.
“It looks like we’ve raised over $3000 so it’s been a great effort,” NEFL president Graeme Wandel said.
“I’d like to thank all clubs and football and netball people for their support of the Pink Day, and particularly Clare Signs for going beyond the call of duty to supply the pink shirts in time.”
NENA president Nikki Hannaford was also pleased with the day.
“It was a great idea and well supported by everyone,” she said.
Netball and football umpires wore special pink shirts and many players and supporters wore pink ribbons, arm bands or wrist bands.
Pink cup cakes quickly sold out at Redhill and Snowtown, while at Clare the canteen served pink doughnuts. The bar served pink champagne at Snowtown and the theme was continued later in the evening at the Snowtown Hotel.
Blyth Snowtown’s junior netballers wore pink bibs while RSMU’s senior netballers donned their “alternative” pink bibs which they normally wear when playing Blyth Snowtown.
