Long serving North Eastern Football League secretary Marlene Kleinig received the prestigious SANFL Administrator of the Year Award at the Affiliated Leagues Luncheon at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.
Marlene, who has just completed her 18th season as the secretary of NEFL, also received a merit award at Saturday’s luncheon.
The latest honours follow the presentation of NEFL life membership to Marlene at the 2008 Mail Medal Dinner at Blyth.
Marlene is the third recipient of the award which ironically has been won by the secretaries of NEFL’s neighbouring leagues since its inception.
Northern Areas Football Association secretary Geoff Lange won the inaugural Administrator of the Year Award in 2007, while the 2008 award was won by Barossa Light and Gawler Football League secretary Zenon “Zoc” Okunieff.
“It’s an indication of how much work people put in to their clubs and leagues ... and that footy’s in very good shape north of Adelaide,” Community Football Board chairman David Shipway said.
Mr Shipway said he had enjoyed working with Marlene over a number of years and she had given efficient, outstanding and friendly service to the NEFL and football.
“She’s always been a great personality of football, she’s always friendly and always cheerful,” Mr Shipway said.
Marlene was nominated for the award by NEFL, with the encouragement of SA Community Football Board manager David Bradley and SANFL development officer for our region, Craig Oliphant.
Her prize included a Mark Rucuitto guernsey with a personal message of congratulations to Marlene, a night for two at the Lakes Resort, a day for two in a corporate box during a Crows match at AAMI Stadium
