Laura far too strong for Bel/Man

Laura was far too strong for Belalie/Mannanarie in the Wanderers Division at Jamestown on Saturday winning comfortably by 65 runs.

Laura won the toss and elected to bat first with Michael Gaunt and Ben Hopgood opening the innings. It wasn’t good. Hopgood was caught by Pat McInerney off the bowling of Zac Noonan for 2 and it was 1 for 3.

David Pilkington joined Gaunt and took the total to 27 before Gaunt was caught by Brett Simpson off Brenton Priest for 14. When Ryan Simpson sent Pilkington back to the pavilion, caught by McInerney for 25 the visitors were 3 for 54.

Koby Millington batting at number 4 and Scott Brand at 5 resurrected the innings with a 59-run partnership. David Rattley broke the partnership dismissing Millington, caught by Scott Atkinson for 30 and Laura was 4 for 113.

Rattley struck again with the total on 137 bowling Brad Jackson for a duck but Brand was doing the damage with the bat for Laura enjoying the Bel/Man bowling attack.

Brand and Shaun Lynch pushed the total up to 155 before Lynch had his castle knocked over by Bernie McInerney for 1. Brand was joined by Sam Zanker but with the total on 164 the locals went bang bang bang.

Zanker was stumped by Pat McInerney off Ryan Simpson for 1, Brand was bowled by Bernie McInerney for a match-winning 83 and Ben Wallis had his woodwork rearranged by Bernie McInerney for a duck. Two runs later Josh Brown was caught by Ryan Simpson off the bowling of Noonan for 1 leaving Matthew Scott stranded at the other end of the pitch on 1.

Laura all out for 166 in the 40th over.

Bernie McInerney took 3 wickets for 11 runs off 2 overs, Rattley 2 for 24 off 8, Noonan 2 for 35 off 7.4 with 1 maiden, Ryan Simpson 2 for 49 off 7 and Priest 1 for 9 off 4 overs with 1 maiden.

Bel/Man got off to a shocker of a start to the modest run-chase with Ryan Simpson and Bernie McInerney opening the batting. McInerney was caught by Jackson off the bowling of Zanker for a duck and it was 1 for 1.

Sam Young joined Simpson and the pair steadied the ship with a 48-run partnership. Brand divided the combination dismissing Young, caught by Gaunt for 30 and one run later Simpson was trapped LBW by Brown for 17.

With no addition to the score Brand struck for the second time sending Pat McInerney on the long walk, caught by Lynch for a duck and the locals were in strife at 4 for 50.

Brett Simpson batting at number 4 and Kyle Renshaw at 6 had a bit of a crack taking the total to 79 before Renshaw was run out for 17. Wallis was given the ball and the Bel/Man innings disintegrated very quickly.

Wallis dismissed Atkinson, caught by Brand for 9, Wallis and Brand combined again to get rid of Simpson for 10, James Lang was caught by Hopgood off Wallis for 5, Rattley was caught by Hopgood off Wallis for 1 and Priest was bowled by Wallis for 3. Noonan was not out on 1.

Bel/Man all out for 101 in the 30th over.

Wallis took 5 for 4 off 4.2 overs with 1 maiden, Brand 2 for 21 off 5, Zanker 1 for 11 off 5 with 1 maiden and Brown 1 for 34 off 6 overs with 2 maidens.

LORDS DIVISION

Crystal Brook tail wags at Gladstone

Crystal Brook was in big trouble at Gladstone on Saturday in the Lords Division before the tail wagged to get them over the line by 1 wicket.

Gladstone elected to bat first after they won the toss with Jamie Davidson and Ian Harslett going in at the top of the order. The total was only 24 when Harslett was caught by Shane Richards off the bowling Dan Hill for 10.

Dylan Hansen joined Davidson and they took the total to 58 before Davidson had his castle knocked over by Michael Reichstein for 29. Six runs later Reichstein struck again bowling Matt Kuzub for 5.

Hansen was sent on his way soon after, caught by Reichstein off Cameron Arbon for 19 and when Brenton Hobart became Arbon’s second victim, caught by Jason Cousins for 5 the locals were 5 for 72. Keiren Glenn batting at number 6 and Ross Hansen at 7 had a brief partnership but with the total on 86 Glenn was caught by Reichstein off Tom Arbon for 3 and with no addition to the score Jed Hennessy was caught by Damien Tiller off Ben Kupsch for a duck.

Paul Humphris joined Hansen and they put some life back into the innings with a 34-run partnership. Tom Arbon broke the partnership bowling Humphris for 16 and Gladstone was 8 for 120.

Five runs later Roger Phillips was caught by Heath Tiller off the bowling of Cameron Arbon for 1 and without another run being scored David Pole was caught by Kupsch off Arbon for a duck. Ross Hansen remained unbeaten on 27.

Gladstone all out for 125 in the 38th over.

Cameron Arbon took 4 wickets for 17 runs off 7.5 overs with 1 maiden, Tom Arbon 2 for 18 off 7 with 2 maidens, Reichstein 2 for 29 off 8, Kupsch 1 for 14 off 5 with 1 maiden and Hill 1 for 36 off 8 overs with 1 maiden.

Crystal Brook was in trouble early in the run-chase with Lee Jackson and Heath Tiller opening the batting. Tiller was caught by Harslett off the bowling of Dylan Hansen for 4 and it was 1 for 4.

Jackson was joined by Tom Bunnett and they took the total to 20 before Jackson was bowled by Hennessy for 8. Five runs later number 4 batsman Kupsch was caught by Hobart off Dylan Hansen for 1. When Bunnett was sent back to the pavilion, caught by Glenn off Dylan Hansen for 12 the visitors were in a precarious position at 4 for 35. Cousins and Damien Tiller steadied the ship slightly with a 32-run partnership before Hobart struck.

Hobart dismissed Cousins, caught by Davidson for 13 and when Tiller was trapped plumb in front of his stumps by Glenn for 17 Crystal Brook wasn’t looking pretty at 6 for 73.

Reichstein and Tom Arbon took the score to 91 before Dylan Hansen nailed his fourth scalp bowling Reichstein for 7 and with no addition to the score Arbon had his timber rattled by Humphris for 13.

Enter Cameron Arbon and Richards. Arbon supported Richards in a wonderful partnership for the ninth wicket as the pair reeled in the target putting together 42 runs before Arbon was caught by Davidson off Phillips for 9. Richards was the winner on 29 not out.

Crystal Brook 9 for 133 in the 34th over.

Dylan Hansen took 4 for 21 off 8 overs, Hennessy 1 for 18 off 6, Hobart 1 for 28 off 7 with 3 maidens, Glenn 1 for 26 off 6 with 1 maiden, Humphris 1 for 27 off 6 overs and Phillips 1 for 5 off 5 balls.

GABBA DIVISION

Orroroo touches-up Boob big time

Orroroo touched-up Booborowie big time at Booborowie on Saturday in the Gabba Division thumping the locals by 9 wickets.

Booborowie won the toss and decided to bat first with Nick Pearce and Mat Cousins going in at one and two. It was bad. Cousins was bowled by Todd Baker for 4, Pearce had his castle knocked over by Andrew Byerlee for 6 and it was 2 for 10.

Albert Dolphin and Gavin Bruce got the innings back in order with a 43-run partnership before Dolphin was bowled by Ben Reid for 28 and when Bruce was caught by John Sheehan off the bowling of Byerlee for 17 the locals were 4 for 67.

Three runs later Tom Whittlesea was trapped LBW by Byerlee for 1, Ron Shattock added 2 runs to the total before being bowled by Paul Smith and Boob was in diabolical strife when Byerlee nailed his fourth scalp dismissing Stephen Tohl, caught by Sheehan for 7 with the total on 75.

Trevor Willis and Sam Connell showed a bit of resistance but with the total on 86 the combination was separated when Reid caught Willis off Fred Laskey for 9.

Caleb Desmet and Connell took the total to 96 before Sheehan held his third catch to dismiss Desmet off the bowling of Laskey for 5. The black and whites just got to three figures when Connell was run out for 5. Aaron Desmet was not out on 1.

Booborowie all out for 101 after 40 overs.

Byerlee took 4 wickets for 25 runs off 8 overs with 2 maidens, Laskey 2 for 12 off 6 with 2 maidens, Smith 1 for 15 off 8 with 3 maidens, Reid 1 for 9 off 4 and Baker 1 for 24 off 6 overs.

Orroroo was never in trouble chasing down the runs for victory. Opening batsmen Cameron Williams and Sheehan scored 45 and 33 runs respectively before retiring to give Baker and Laskey a hit.

The visitors had just past the target when Laskey was caught by Cousins off the bowling of Connell for 1. Baker remained unbeaten on 9.

Orroroo 1 for 103 after 18 overs.

Connell took 1 for 4 off 3 overs with 1 maiden.
