Hot weather bothering you?
Just do what these kids did- jump into a pool!
Jamestown competitors who won medals on the day were Wade Meaney, Courtney Talbot, Lyn Humphris, Di Martin, Portia Richardson. All medals won on the day were presented by Dr Rowena Conway who we would like to thank for sponsoring the carnival.
This year for the first time we added an “All comers open 400m freestyle/400m Individual Medley” to our event making it a State Qualifying event and competitors from as far away as Whyalla, Pt Pirie, Henley and Grange, Clare, SPJ Sharks, Starplex plus some local clubs attended. At our open carnivals we are fortunate to have members from SA Swimming attend as chief time keepers, starters, stroke referees and recording officers. Two of these people are ex Jamestown residents, Ted and Maxine Mason. They love catching up with friends and family on these occasions.
This season the Jamestown Armature Swimming Club has 20 families with 28 members competing. Three new families joined us this year and their children Matthew and Braydon Irrgang, Luke Jebb and Josh Maguire with Jack Walkington who also joined us, are proving to be very keen competitors.
Our coach is Marie Fullwood assisted by Amy Napper and they run coaching sessions each Monday and Tuesday at 5.30pm
Our club is a member of the Mid North Swimming Association which comprises of clubs from Gladstone, Crystal Brook, Booleroo Centre, Orroroo and Jamestown. All 5 clubs compete together on Friday nights with each club taking turns to host the Friday night events. This season the Quorn and Pt Pirie Clubs sent competitors to an event which was great as it gave opportunity for swimmers to compete against competitors who they are not familiar with.
Competitors at Clare were Mikaela Slattery, Wade Meaney, Annabel Porter, Joel Porter Jasmine Hart.
This season a small group from our club competed in the Mid North Games carnival at Clare and Booleroo Open carnival. They all swam well with Joel and Annabel Porter reaching the finals at Clare and Mikaela Slattery, at Booleroo. Rowena Conway and Wade Meaney won medals at Booleroo. All our swimmers both young and older are to be congratulated on their sportsmanship and effort they put into competitions. They all compete fairly and with lots of cheering encourage each other to improve their personal best , which all have done.
If you wish to know more about our club just ask any member they would be pleased to have a chat with you.
Kaye Meaney, club president.
