Saturday marked the special occasion of the opening of the newly renovated Watervale Grandstand.
Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council Mayor Allan Aughey, State Member for Frome Geoff Brock, local Councillor Trevor Ackland and many past and present residents attended the official opening.
The renovation process has taken more than seven years to complete thanks to many local tradespeople, the voluntary work of the Watervale Cricket Club and those who contributed financially to restoring such a significant structure in the Clare Valley.
Watervale Community Association president Ray Camilleri officially opened the grandstand, with local resident and long time Watervale Cricket Club patron Lindsey Smith doing the honors of cutting the ribbon.
Mr Aughey also spoke about the significance of the restoring such a historical building and noted it to be one of the “most picturesque places he had ever seen in his extensive travels”.
Guests were than invited to join the community for some light refreshments and to watch the local derby cricket match against Watervale and Auburn/Mintaro, who were playing for the ‘The Tin Cup’.
Local resident Michelle Pudney provided face painting for the kids and a barbecue tea was offered for all stayed around.
