The Eudunda Football Club held a community meeting last Friday night to discuss if the club will go ahead with their amalgamation with the Robertstown Football Club.
Eudunda Football Club will vote on the proposed amalgamation prior to its annual general meeting next Friday, November 27.
The two clubs have met a few times since the end of the 2009 season to discuss plans for an amalgamation and this time it looks likely the proposal will go ahead.
There’s been many issues between the neighbouring clubs over the years that stems way back to 1952 when the prospect of amalgamation was first brought up and squashed very quickly.
Robertstown played in the Mid North League before joining the Barossa and Light Football League and most recently played in the Mid Murray Football League.
Ramco left the Mid Murray competition at the end of the 2008 season leaving only four clubs in the League.
Robertstown considered joining the Adelaide Plains Football League but realistically it made sense to team up with Eudunda for a crack in the North Eastern Football League.
Whichever way the Eudunda members decide to go with the amalgamation, the club has started its recruiting campaign with a major signing for the 2010 season.
The Roosters have had ties with the Port Adelaide Football Club for many years and next year the 2009 Magpies skipper Corey Ah Chee will line-up in the red and white guernsey.
Ah Chee has been an integral part of the Port Adelaide Football Club since making his debut in 2000. The 29-year-old has racked up 206 club games and represented South Australia on seven occasions.
The signing of Ah Chee will not only benefit the football club but the netball club will also be a winner with Ah Chee’s fiancé Lisa being a keen netballer who has also played at state level.
Eudunda President Jamie Reese is excited to have Ah Chee come on board at the Roosters and said he will be good for the junior players at the club.
“We’ve had contacts with Port Adelaide in the past, we recruited Shane Biacsi last year, we heard Corey had retired so we got his phone number, we contacted him straight away and the thing that swung him with us is because our league has football and netball on the same day,” he said.
“His fiancé is a former state netballer and that’s what really swung it for us.
“He wants to get involved with our juniors, coaching juniors, that’s something he’s keen on, he wants to pass on the skills and knowledge that he’s got to our juniors,” Reese said.
Ah Chee has played the majority of his football as a key defender but at the Eudunda Football Club in 2010 there will be no doubt he will be used up forward where the club has been breaking down in recent years.
The outcome of the amalgamation will be made public over the next few weeks – if it doesn’t happen in 2010 it will definitely go ahead in 2011.
