Country netty in the city

10 Mar, 2010 09:16 AM
Registrations are now being called from country netballers who have relocated to Adelaide in 2010 for university or work to play netball on Thursday nights at the ETSA Park outdoor courts.

Backyard Netball commenced in 2009 and during the course of the year had more than 130 players from country regions participate in matches.

Last year, teams competed under iconic names such as Riverland, South East, Black Rock, Bundaleer, Booborowie, Port Germien Murraytown, Laura/Paringa, Yorke Peninsula.

“Backyard Netball is a great opportunity for girls moving to the City to join up for a solid game of Netball and in the process meet people from all over the State in a relaxed informal country sport environment,” Backyard Football Australia chief executive officer Paul McInerney said.

“There are no grading nights, no training nights – it’s just come and play on Thursday nights.

“You can nominate as a team of nine players – or nominate as an individual who is happy having a game of netball.

“Further you can nominate as a regular weekly player or as a fill-in depending on your commitments.

“It’s about having fun and meeting people through netball. Annabel Homer, ABC Country Hour, even managed a game last year.”

All you have to do is register via www.backyardnetball.com and leave your name, town of origin, mobile number and email address and you will be playing netball in the city for 2010.

Backyard Netball is particularly aimed at girls who might not be able to commit the time to club based netball in the city due to university contact time, part time work commitments and just getting used to living in Adelaide”

Donna Kelly from Jamestown is the player data base coordinator and will look forward to receiving your nomination of a team or as an individual.

There are no games during uni holidays and players will determine the length of the season.

It is expected that the Backyard Netball season will commence the week after Easter.
