The Brinkworth/Spalding/Redhill Football Club has reappointed Brian (Butch) Smith as their ‘A’ Grade coach for the 2010 season.
Smith will be in his third year at the helm after taking over the top job at the Tigers from Paul Meyer at the end of 2007.
BSR haven’t had too much to brag about at A Grade level over the past couple of years finishing seventh on the ladder in 2008 with 3 wins for the season and this year they took home the wooden spoon with only 1 win from their seventeen starts.
Having said that the Tigers have been on a rebuilding stage for the last few years building their junior footballers into top level players and they’ll continue to work down that path but they do need a few quality mid-fielders to help and guide the youngsters along the way.
BSR President Frank Hayes said the club has got a group of talented colts coming through the ranks and they’ll continue to develop them into senior footballers.
“Obviously we’re going to continue to develop our juniors, our young ones, we think we’ve got a terrific, talented bunch coming through as was proven with the under 17s making the Grand-Final the last two years.
“We’ve got to try and hold all the players we had from last season and if we can bolster the squad with some new recruits we will.
“We have got some work to do now, there’s no doubt about that, to hold our young ones we need to bolster our ranks, we know that and we need to work on building up our mid-field,” said the president.
Coach Smith told the Northern Argus they’ve hung onto a couple of quality players and they’ve got one returning to the playing field.
“ We’re on the move looking for recruits but we’ve got Leigh Fuller back, he was my runner last season, Kyron Burgess has decided to come back and play with us and not for the Eagles.
“Damien Mellow, his brother Adam and David Smith will also be returning to Tigerland.
“We’ve got three colts coming up out of the under 17s, Sam Martin, Tylor Stephenson and Kyron Burgess and there’s a couple of others that will probably be good enough to step up to senior level.
“We lack on-ballers, we’re still having to play older players on the ball and they’re just not up to that any more.” Smith said.
Adam Moller will once again be coaching the B Grade and Wayne Lee has been reappointed to look after the under 14s.
The under 17s coach is yet to be announced.
