Stanley defeats Mt Maurice by 4 wickets

03 Feb, 2010 10:52 AM
Stanley cruised through the first leg of the 2010 inter-association cricket carnival with a 4-wicket victory over Mount Maurice at Clare on Sunday.

Mt Maurice won the toss and elected to bat first with Jordan and Tyson Arthur opening the innings. The pair made a steady start putting together 28 runs before Jordan was caught by Matt Vandeleur off the bowling of Greg Colbert for 6.

Scott Kuerschner joined Tyson Arthur and they took the total to 51 before Arthur was caught by Vandeleur off Mitchell Reynolds for 35. Five runs later Michael Skull was caught by Scott Stedall off Kane Steele for a duck.

Reynolds struck again with the total on 62 dismissing Kuerschner, caught by Ryan Darling for 14 and when Steele picked up his second wicket sending Cameron Williams back to the grandstand, caught by Michael Prince for 7 the visitors were 5 for 87.

Steele pounced for a third time soon after bowling Liam O’Dea for 27 and Mt. Maurice wasn’t looking pretty at 6 for 99. Cameron and Lachlan McCallum steadied the ship slightly with a 31-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

The innings disintegrated very quickly after Prince bowled Cameron McCallum for 29 with the total on 130.

Two runs later Vandeleur dismissed Kieren Blackwell, caught by Stedall for a duck and Prince trapped Lachlan McCallum plumb in front of his stumps for 5. Paul Arthur went for a duck, caught by Paul Meyer off Prince leaving Dion Foulis not out on 1.

Mount Maurice all out for 133 in the 42nd over.

Steele took 3 wickets for 20 runs off 10 overs with 2 maidens, Prince 3 for 28 off 7.5, Reynolds 2 for 17 off 9 with 4 maidens, Vandeleur 1 for 18 off 5 with 2 maidens and Colbert 1 for 24 off 6 overs.

Stanley made a poor start to the testing run-chase with Meyer and Matt Norman opening the batting. Meyer was caught by Lachlan McCallum off the bowling of Blackwell for a duck and it was 1 for 3.

Vandeleur joined Norman and they had a 56-run partnership before Vandeleur was caught by Lachlan McCallum off Paul Arthur for 38. Ben Seymon went in at number 4 and with Norman took the total to 100.

Jordan Arthur made the breakthrough bowling Seymon for 24 and when Tyson Arthur sent Darling on the long walk, caught by O’Dea for 7 the locals were 4 for 110.

Tyson Arthur went bang bang with the total on 125 dismissing Steele, caught by Jordan Arthur for 4 and Norman, caught by Jordan Arthur for a patient 45.

Stedall and Todd McPharlin scored the few runs required for victory with both batsmen not out on 5.

Stanley 6 for 135 after 33 overs.

Tyson Arthur took 3 for 28 off 7 overs with 1 maiden, Jordan Arthur 1 for 17 off 7, Paul Arthur 1 for 21 off 4 with 1 maiden and Blackwell 1 for 21 off 4 overs.
