Milne 5-fer and 75 off the bat

03 Feb, 2010 11:54 AM
The Second XI match at Laura turned out to be fairly one-sided in favour of the Rocky River hosts.

Batting first the hybrid Mount Maurice – Belalie-Mokota combination was in big trouble when Rocky River paceman Sam ‘Squid’ Zanker had Brad Searle caught behind by Koby Millington off the fourth ball of the opening over for no score.

It just got worse when the Zanker/Millington combination struck again to dismiss first drop Clayton Pycroft (4) at 2/6.

Ryan Slee went for 17 and it was 4/39 when skipper Tim Arthur was caught Millington bowled Andrew Milne for two runs.

But opener James Warren (33) and Pat McInerney (26) got into it a bit and by the time they were both out it was 6/90.

By this time Milne had taken over the game with his deceptive pace and he bowled Sam Kuerschner (0), Mark Shane (5) and had Guillaume Kruger (1) caught Dylan Hansen at 9/99 and it was goodnight Dick.

Ben Sommerville was last man out for two runs at 10/101. Milne’s figures were impressive taking 5/24 off 10 overs.

Tai Martin-Page took 2/28/6 and Zanker finished with 2/8/6.

Skipper Rick Willis and Sam Weckert took singles.

Rocky River replied with an easy 2/105 off 23 overs.

Willis made 17 before he was out at 1/34 and No.3 Dylan Hansen followed four runs later with a duck against his name.

But opener Andrew Milne punished the attack with a blistering unbeaten 75 to see the target reached in quick time.

Jayden Burgess was the other not out batsman on six. Sam Kuerschner picked up both wickets and finished with 2/27 off eight overs.

Meanwhile, next Saturday’s rounds are: Rocky River v Mount Maurice at Crystal Brook and Belalie-Mokota v Stanley at Spalding and in the Second XI Stanley plays Mount Maurice / Belalie-Mokota at Bundaleer.

On Sunday Mount Maurice and Belalie-Mokota clash at Gladstone High School and Rocky River hosts Stanley at Laura while in the Second XI fixture Rocky River will tee off against Stanley at Wirrabara.
