Rob Calaby cracked a century for Clare and Kane Steele whacked a ton for Sevenhill but Clare was far too good winning by 109 runs at Sevenhill on Saturday.
Clare won the toss and decided to bat first with Matt Vandeleur and Scott Stedall opening the innings. The pair accumulated 43 runs before Vandeleur had his castle knocked over by Rodger Cole for 26.
Calaby joined Stedall and they had a 33-run partnership for the second wicket. Mark Inglis broke the partnership dismissing Stedall, caught by Matt Catford for 18 and the visitors were 2 for 76.
Ben Seymon went in at number 4 and with Calaby put Clare in a commanding position with a 104-run partnership. Catford made the breakthrough bowling Seymon for 55 and it was 3 for 180.
Calaby was joined by Paul Morton and another handy partnership developed with the pair adding 75 runs for the fourth wicket. Patrick Clark divided the combination bowling Calaby for a game-high 110 and Clare was 4 for 255.
With no addition to the score Luke Dunstan was bowled by Clark for a duck, with the total on 277 Morton was caught by Mark Harvey off Clark for 39 and Clark nailed his fourth scalp sending Andrew Vandeleur back to the concrete steps, caught by Cole for 8.
Five runs later Tom Huppatz heard the death rattle off the bowling of Catford for 5, Mitchell Reynolds 3 and Chris Klingner1 saw out the remaining overs setting the locals a formidable target to chase down.
Clare 8 for 286 after 45 overs.
Clark took 4 wickets for 67 runs off 9 overs, Catford 2 for 45 off 9 with 1 maiden, Cole 1 for 55 off 9 with 2 maidens and Inglis 1 for 51 off 7 overs with 1 maiden.
Sevenhill began the mammoth run-chase with Steele and Catford opening the batting. It wasn’t the greatest of starts. Catford was caught by Stedall off the bowling of Klingner for 4 and it was 1 for 13.
Andrew Gill joined Steele but with the total on 38 Klingner struck again dismissing Gill, caught by Dunstan for 12 and when Klingner struck for the third time to get rid of Ryan O’Neill, caught by Hayden Calaby for a duck the locals were 3 for 50.
Four runs later Sevenhill was in all sorts of strife when Mark Harvey was caught by Stedall off Matt Vandeleur for 3 bringing Inglis back to the crease to join Steele after getting hit on the beak batting at number 4 with a partnership in desperate need.
The pair did stick together for awhile putting together 55 runs for the fourth wicket with Steele dominating the partnership. Calaby broke the partnership dismissing Inglis, caught by Huppatz for 13 and Sevenhill was 5 for 109.
Steele was joined by Will Levick and they took the total to 136 before Levick was trapped L.B.W. by Dunstan for 10. Dunstan pounced again with the total on 159 dismissing Cole, caught by Andrew Vandeleur for 7 and the locals were 7 wickets down.
Steele had just passed the three figures when he was caught by Klingner off Reynolds for 105 and it was 8 for 173.
Four runs later Dunstan cleaned up the tail sending Richard Hodgson on the long walk, caught by Reynolds for 3 and caught Clark off his own bowling for a duck. Michael Thomas was not out on 3.

Dunstan took 4 for 19 off 5.3 overs, Klingner 3 for 50 off 8, Matt Vandeleur 1 for 25 off 6 with 2 maidens, Reynolds 1 for 35 off 6 and Calaby 1 for 34 off 5 overs.
